Academic Conference
The English Graduate Students’ Association (EGSA) at Georgetown University will be hosting the 2023 Conference, “Malady,” on October 20th.
This conference seeks to foster an interdisciplinary dialogue between fields such as literature, disability studies, philosophy, and the medical humanities within the combined thematic, theoretical and critical orientation provided by “malady.” The questions being considered include: What does it mean to be ill? What does it mean to be healed? What does illness look like? Who/What can be considered ill?
The keynote speaker is Dr. Jerome McGann, Professor Emeritus at the University of Virginia, who will be speaking at 9am in New North 311.
Chris Hansen’s film “In The End We Become Our Avatars” will be screened at 5pm in New North 311. His film explores Silicon Valley’s quest toward immortal life, exploring the ideologies and religious impulses that fuel these immortal urges. Chris is a PhD Student at SUNY Buffalo.
